Unstabilized (Pure) Zirconia

Pure zirconia (ZrO2) has a high melting point and a low thermal conductivity. It can be used as an additive to enhance the properties of other oxide refractory. At room temperature, pure zirconia is monoclinic form and lacks of toughness. Low strength and toughness make the usage of pure ZrO2 in many industrial applications impossible. ■
